Development and adjustment of an oval shaped cup – type TC

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2012

Abstract

In our statement we present the development and possibilities of using of a new revision oval acetabular cup - type TC. The construction of the implant is based on the spheric noncemented cup - type SF, however, it difers significantly from other revision systems by its elongation into an oval shape by proximal dubbing.

This dubbing enables a pressfit fixation and an enormous space for spongioplastics is being created. The innovated II.generation was complemented by elements increasing the primary stability of this implant in the terrain of a markedly destructed acetabulum.

This is the single revision implant on the market, that enables a proximal fixation by locking screws. Advantages of this fixation were proved during an experiment on cadaverous bovine pelves.

The TC cup is being commonly used for 8 years with very good clinical results on our departments.
