Abstract
Type 1 diabetes is a serious disease from a social as well as an economic point of view. The underlying mechanism of the disease is an autoimmune destructive insulitis with the crucial role of autoreactive T cells which are Th1 polarised.
In this publication current knowledge on complex type 1 diabetes immunopathology is introduced and this section is followed by an analysis of the most important immunointervention studies which have been conducted in relationship to this disease.
