Infant pulmonary function testing (IPFT) is a rapidly developing topic. New methods of obtaining appropriate IPFT results require experience, professional skills and knowledge of interpretative strategies.
IPFT methods also require reflection on the wider public health. The aim of this publication (Part II) is to provide detailed information about the two already established in the Czech Republic routine methods, i.e., Baby Resistance/Compliance measured by occlusion technique and rapid thoraco-abdominal compression.
In addition to the description of the principle of IPFT methods and their yield for clinical practice are presented the most frequent measurement errors, basic information on predicted values, interpretative strategy and relevance to clinical practice. Because these data have not yet been published in the Czech Republic this paper should define the meaning IPFT for diagnostics and care of infants and toddlers with respiratory diseases.
