Antithrombotic postoperative prevention with Bemiparine

Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2008

Abstract

Postoperative administration of antithrombotics (Bemiparine) after hip and knee joint replacement was assessed by two orthopedic clinics in 107 standard patients operated in the period 01. 02.-30. 06. 2007. Effectiveness of administering prevention medication was assessed (deep vein thrombosis occurrence - DVT below), as well as its effect on blood loss (hemoglobin, thrombocythemia), hematoma and other severe episodes.

No fatal complication occurred in the follow-up patient group after hip and knee joint replacement surgery. DVT occurred in comparable frequency as with other medications (2.8%).

Frequency of postoperative hematoma was adequate to the postoperative medication administering, i.e., it was lower with Bemiparine than those in other published data and comparable to other studies with Bemiparine. Other adverse effects were not detected.
