Home injuries prevention in pediatrician's practice

Abstract

Injuries are the leading cause of death, hospitalization and disabilities in children older than 1 year in the Czech Republic. They represent major health, economical and social problem.

Traffic injuries belong to the most serious injuries of children aged below 19, but injuries most often happen at home and in the neighborhood. Pediatricians should play key role in the child injury prevention.

Standard procedure which summarizes the main principles of child injury prevention according to age categories, types of injuries and risk factors must be established. The most important information and procedures of the injury prevention according to child age and risk factors were collected.

Proposal of procedures for child injury prevention was prepared for pediatricians. It provides guidelines for standard and effective procedures for education of parents and children concerning child injury prevention, for creating safe environment for children and for early identification of possible injury risk factors.
