Abstract

National Register of Joint Replacements in Czech Republic was created as part of the National Health Information System in 2002. Register manager is the Department of Health Information and Statistics, expert guarantor Czech Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology, financed from state resources.

Full operation of the register was launched in 2003 and is currently focused on the hip joint. Knee and shoulder replacements registers are in construction.

The register provides a summary of epidemiological data and other statistics, including percentage of revision rate (RR) and cumulative probability of survival curves (Kaplan Meier) for the main reference group of patients and implants used. More complex analytical methods of assessment are being developed.

From 2003-2009 the work of the registry cover 72 orthopaedic departments. 63,037 primary implantations and the 8931 revisions were registered. In terms of gender predominance of women among 59,9% in primary and 64.7% of revisions is evident .
