Fatal case of diarrhea-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome with severe neurologic involvement

Abstract

Diarrhea-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (D + HUS) is characterized by renal impairment, non-immune hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia.1 Patients with D + HUS may present also with other symptoms, and central nervous system (CNS) disease is the most serious of these. Here we report a fatal case of a toddler with D + HUS with severe neurologic involvement.
