Abstract

With ever more people living in cities, urban agriculture embodies one effort to transform the historically tumultuous relationship between cities and food, with the additional benefit of positively impacting urban citizenship. This article proves a brief overview of the literature, demonstrating the economic, health and environmental benefits of urban agriculture, as well as urban gardening's ability to foster community building and social cohesion, enhance community ownership and promote social learning and understanding, thus having a profound impact on urban citizenship
