Abstract

Limitations in cognitive functions, in abilities of rational judgment and lowered self-sufficiency do not make an individual less human. Abstract idealization of autonomy which is mostly connected with an ability of rational judgment and independent decision making appear during simple everyday activities.

Autonomy of each human being is verified in social connections regardless of age, illness or how much the illness limits the individual. Food and activities connected with it offer not only nutrition but also an opportunity to support personal identity, dignity and self-sufficiency of every human being, space for creating and maintaining social relations.

When alimentation is perceived as part of the care it can be one of the most meaningful activities of the day. Experience of a good food in a company of nice people in pleasant environment can be a cheerful moment in person's life in residential housing.

Program "Bon appetit - Joy of food" of authors Jitka Zgola and Gilbert Bordillon which is organized in our residential housing is a proof of it.
