One of the regular chapters of the reports of the ombudsman on the visits to the social care facilities is Autonomy of Will of Service User. Regimen is a related notion - sometimes overestimated in practice, on other occasions denied as part of the service provider's work.
The Social Service Act and quality standards create a considerable space for autonomous will of the client, however, the basic rules of social service provision are formulated to protect human dignity and allow the service provider to decide on the basis of individually specified needs of the service user. What then is the space left for regimen? How to work with autonomous human will of an individual whose intellectual functions are impaired by dementia? The text aims to answer these questions.
Detailed attention is paid to the concept of the management of needs of people suffering from dementia. The conclusion is brought that considering people suffering from dementia the first place doesn't belong tu the autonomy of will, but must be balanced by the priority of human's dignity.
