Abstract

The text deals with findings and recommendations of the Public Defender of Rights from systematic visits of social care homes for elderly. Addressed topics: nursing care as a necessary part of care provided in social services for people suffering from advanced dementia; organizational and legal requirements for work in multidisciplinary team; the prevention of malnutrition; use of tranquillising medication as a restriction; rules for use of medication prescribed "pro re nata"; specific aspects in care provided to people suffering from dementia; possibilities and challinges of cooperation between social care staff and client's medical doctor; legal aspects of professional secret of social care staff, nurses and medical doctor.
