Abstract
This paper deals with the philosophical concept of a "spiritual person", which was developed by the Czech philosopher Jan Patočka (1907-1977). More precisely, I discuss this concept through the framework of Patočka's interpretation of modernity, with an emphasis on his understanding of the so-called "modern intelligentsia".
In addition, it is my aim to put Patočka's understanding of the concepts of spiritual person/intellectual/intelligentsia into the theoretical framework of the term "non-political politics". The emphasis is also put on the social-historical context of the 1970s Czechoslovakia.
