Abstract

Analysis of the reasons for the establishment and activities of court office and memoria during the principate. The author presented on the example of the court office and memoria the formation of the administrative structure of the Roman Empire during the kaiserdom.

The real influence of the office and memoria can be connected with the reforms of Emperor Hadrian, because from that period was the office well epigraphic documented. At the beginning the office served as a private secretary of the Emperor, but as the time passed the office took over the agenda from other offices, till it finally reached a position as a universal imperial secretariat (half of the 3rd century.

AD). At that time, office court and memoria gained such a universal and exclusive status, which represented in the early principate the office ab epistulis, but with far more power.
