Abstract

The goal of the study consists in comparing selected psychological constructs of volunteers by genders. The object of comparison consists of selected traits and tendencies founding the prosocial behaviour of volunteers.

They include components and dimensions of prosocial personality according to the theory by L.A.Penner el al. The results of the research performed on a set of volunteers (N women = 331; N men = 123) point out statistically significant differences between men and women in a part of observed variables.

Female volunteers working predominantly in service organizations with direct care for clients show, as compared to male volunteers working predominantly in interest organizations, higher level of social responsibility, emotional and cognitive empathy and other-oriented empathy.
