Psychopharmaceuticals in Dermatology

Abstract

The importance of psychopharmacology and psychotherapy in dermatological practice is increasing. Author discusses the basic classification of psychological disorders in clinical dermatology, importance of psycho-somatic approach including a holistic approach to a man in health and illness and a context of a biopsychosocial unity of human beeing.

Author shows the rules of rational prescription of psychoactive drugs, reviews the main groups of psychopharmaceuticals (anxiolotics, antidepressants, thymoleptics, hypnotics, antipsychotics and nootropic substances). Continuous development of new psychoactive drugs and complexity of dermatological psychological disorders requires interdisciplinary collaboration of dermatologists, clinical psychologists and psychiatric consultants thus enabling application of the current scientific knowledge on psycho-neuro-endocrino-immunology.
