The article analyses early philosophy of M. Heidegger and K.

Jaspers and addresses the role of existentiel philosophy in this stage of their work. Philosophy of existence is understood as being limited and endangered by the extremes of abstraction and theology; in this respect, the whole structure had earlier been fully investigated by S.

Kierkegaard who thus provided immediate inspiration to both Jaspers and Heidegger.
