Tricuspid valve endocarditis complicated by septic pulmonary embolism in an intravenous drug user

Abstract

A case report describes a sudden unexpected death in a 32-year-old woman - drug abuser - who collapsed suddenly at home. At auopsy there were fresh cutaneous haemorrhages on the anterior part of the rigth thigh along with fresh puncuture marks.

Cardiac autopsy showed almost complete destructiom of the anterior and septal cusps of the tricuspid valve. The edges of the cusps contained granular vegetations.

The cause of death was confirmed to be pulmonary embolism with detached vegetations.
