Abstract

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain which causes mental and physical deterioration leading gradually to death. This disease currently represents one of the most pressing problems of human kind not only in terms of health, but also economic.

Interest in finding a cure of Alzheimer's disease is enormous, but also through long-term and global efforts for effective therapy, the only available treatment is a symptomatic administration of inhibitors acetylcholinesterase and memantine. New therapeutic approaches as well as those based on cholinergic or amyloid theory, have not yet brought the benefits and the question is whether all effective cure for this progressive disease will be develop, or if we will rely just on the prevention and minimization of the risk factors of the disease.
