The chapter briefly reviews recent trends in the liberalization of financial markets in the People's Republic of China, especially the changes in the banking sector. Subsequently an attempt is made at a cautious estimate of future development of both banking regulation and access of European financial institutions to Chinese markets.
The analysis (which accentuates the internal power logic of Chinese political system) suggest continuation of rather gradual and piecewise attitude to liberalization, a sudden dramatic change in Chinese banking sector appears unlikely.
