Abstract
This papaer deals with the topic of semi-presidentialism and its eventual usefulness when analyzing Czech politics. It evaluates the most frequent definitions of semi-presidentialism from both methodological and theoretical point of view.
As author argues, strong presidential powers and the supremacy of executive power over legislative power are the two essential attributes of semi-presidentialism. Accordingly, Czech Republic is not semi-presidential regime despite the fact that the Czech President is newly elected in general direct elections.
This change does not constitute a reason to rename the Czech parliamentarism to semi-presidentialism as the powers of the President have remained the same.
