Abstract
The article discusses the role of informal care and family caregivers in the system (social and health) of the long-term care. Despite of persistent familialistic orientation of the Czech population, in our country there is a little attention paid to those who provide intensive personal care to their family members.
Czech family policy is characterized by reliance on internal resources of the family, especially of the women. The status of informal carers and their rights and privileges are not sufficiently defined.
