Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2014

Abstract

Substantial changes in the spectrum of skin mycoses werw noticed during last two decades. The incidence of tinea corporis and capitis is rising, especially in children and adolescents.

New and uncommon fungal agents have emerged. On the other hand, the incidence of mycologically verfied dermatophytic onychomycoses is decreasing.

Many cases are in fact onychodystrophias with secondary fungal infection by yeasts or opportunistic molds. Non-pharmaceutical methods of therapy for onychomycosis are being developer, e.g. lasers and photodynamic therapy.
