Selected Questions of Philosophy of Education

Abstract

This introduction to selected topics of philosophy encourages the reader to actively engage with the philosophy of education. The task of this text is to introduce the selected topics of educational philosophy to students of pedagogy and open them unique horizon of philosophical thought.

Firstly, the text concerns general questions of philosophy of education. Secondly, the author deals with several topics taken from ancient Greek thought to find between them an inspiration for contemporary education.

Thirdly, he explains the archetypes of education formulated by distinguished professor Radim Palouš. Fourthly, he pays attention to the issue of philosophical education.

In this introduction to philosophy of education, the author expresses his opinion that the philosophy of education should by primarily understood as a distinctive philosophical perspective exploring dimension of education and as the key element for gaining better understanding of the phenomenon of human existence. And that is the reason why he deals primarily with questions of educational assumptions and fundaments and theirs meaning for pedagogy and human life.
