Abstract
In the nonfiction publication there are selected themes from several areas that could be interesting to the general public.. The first chapter of the book focuses on the issue of drugs from many points of view; the second chapter is devoted to fertilizers.
Plastics and other macromolecular substances in the daily life of each of us are studied in the next section. The fourth chapter deals with the explanation and application of MRI and related fields.
The fifth part focuses on a group of natural substances - isoprenoids, their possible isolation and experiments with them. The following chapter explains the use of serious games and modern electronic quizzes to obtain chemical literacy and the last chapter is devoted to the Web Portal of Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague; since 2009 this portal has been used to support chemical education both at secondary schools and Universities.
The supplementary materials for each of the chapters are provided on DVD medium which includes materials ready to be used in lessons - such as worksheets, quizzes, games or instructional text for experiments. The DVD also includes other materials that cannot be transmitted in text form, e.g. movie clips with chemical experiments, electronic presentations, tests and games.
All of these resources aim to ease the journey through the world of chemistry and make it more engaging.
