Abstract
The main objective of the publication Legal translation theory and practice is to provide readers not only theoretically substantiated how to proceed when converting legal information from Czech to English, but also practical demonstrations approach to translate the new Civil Code (NOZ). The publication is divided into three chapters.
The first chapter analyzes in detail the process of legal translation, formulate the basic rules for translating legal texts and defines the scope právnělingvistických knowledge and translation skills. The second chapter is devoted to translating legislation sets právnělingvistická basis for translation into English Czech laws, compares the linguistic approach to law-making in the Czech Republic and some English-speaking countries.
Includes a brief nature of the language NOZ and analysis of the different varieties of English law, as well as some grammatical phenomena, which are for translation (not only) of the Civil Code substantial. The third chapter in five sections shows a practical approach to the translation into English of the Civil Code.
The first section is devoted to technical legislative elements of the entire code and its systematics; the other four sections are defined by NOZ parts - general part, family law, property rights absolute and relative property rights. In each section are selected provisions from the perspective of translation difficult because of the choice of either Czech language means, or ambiguity Czech text, which can lead to different interpretations.
