The aim of this text is to describe the concept of community school and a pedagogical role of a community in contemporary pedagogical discourse. The basic theoretical approach is the analysis of chosen social and pedagogical theories and activities, which provide the theme with the content, methodological and terminological frame.
The text brings an insight into school as a significant social participant and an initiator of lifelong learning, its role in specific social and pedagogical activities and processes of community learning, and outlines initial characteristics of community school as the public space open to intercultural and social dialogue and local initiatives.
