Abstract
Patients in longterm remission of childhood cancer markedly belong to risk group in relation to prevalence of atherosclerosis, subclinical ischemic heart disease, and even higher incidence of metabolic syndrome symptoms. However, lower level of physical acitivity is also a risk factor for metabolic syndrome and this is typical for cancer survivors.
Inactivity may be caused not only by the change of life regime during the treatment but also by hyperprotectivity of family or psychological problems of the patient. That is why even in young patients there should be regular assessment of lipid profile, blood pressure and BMI, as well as enhancement of regular physical acitivity.
Health oriented educational programs on all levels of education may contribute to this.
