"Altogether beautiful" (Song of Sol. 4:7) - Medieval Authors, the Sinful Saint and the Saint Sinner

Abstract

The article presents two passages from works of two medieval authors, William of Auvergne and Henry Suso. Both samples illustrate the dissatisfaction with the discrepancy between the heavenly Church, and the very real, but vexing and worrying state of the Church in this earthly world.
