Abstract
This chapter presents modafilnil and its armodafinil, wakefulness and alertness enhancing agents frequently used in modern sleep medicine. These drugs are registered for treatment of excessive daytime somnolence due to narcolepsy.
Both have good safety profile but they are approved only for the use in adults and in women using birth control means. The therapeutic potential of modafinil and armodafinil seems to be larger than indicated by the label.
