The Lowest Country in the World: Maldives, Tuvalu or the Marshall Islands?

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2014

Abstract

This article attempts to answer the question, which country is the most low-lying in the world. Because the lowest countries are located on coral islands, the article briefly describes their unique topography and problems with exact elevation measurements in such terrain.

It presents a critical review of research concerning both the exact position and elevation of the highest points of the countries in question and compares its results with the outputs of a digital terrain models analysis.
