Briefly about ulcerative colitis and treatment with mesalazine

Abstract

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammation of exacerbating usually localized in the mucosa of the rectum and adjacent parts of the colon or the entire colon and may affect any part of the digestive tract and optionally extraintestinálními manifestations. The goal of treatment ulcerative colitis remission.

Long-term maintenance therapy in remission is recommended for all patients with inflammatory bowel disease. The basis for therapy, in particular light and moderate ulcerative colitis are aminosalicylates (5-ASA, mesalazine) administered rectally or orally.

Mesalazine is applied in the treatment of active and inactive forms of the disease.
