Abstract

Comprehensive knowledge of updated information dealing with peri-operative care procedures. It is the first publication of its kind embracing basic knowledge in anatomy, physiology and pathology.

It will attract attention of professionals across all surgical disciplines, and will be of special relevance to nurses working at operating theatres and postgraduate students.The general part introduces all aspects of surgery issues. It defines indications to surgical procedures, their classification and distinguishing; describes intended, urgent and prompt operation procedures; lists operating theatre facilities and equipment; characterizes organization of work at the operating theatre and names personnel; depicts preparation of an operating team, procedure and instrumentation; specifies manipulation with biological material; states management of medical records and documentation; defines basics of anaesthesia, post-operative care, post-operative complications and nosocomial infections.

Emphasis is stressed on disinfection and sterilization. The special part presents a complex of chapters focussing on individual surgical disciplines, i. e. general surgery, abdominal surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmic surgery, transplantation surgery, plastic surgery, child surgery and neurosurgery, gynecology and obstetrics, urology, orthopediatrics, otorhinolaryngology, traumatology and burns medicine.

For easy orientation and orderliness the chapters have a uniform structure, i.e. each describing anatomy, physiology, pathology and surgical treatment within individual surgical disciplines.
