Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2014

Abstract

Arthrodesis of the trapaziometacarpal joint is the method of choice in the treatment of severe arthritis and lateral subluxation of this joint. Methods for achieving a solid fusion of this joint are known and report in the literature.

They are associeated with some failure rate. Our study presents a simple efective method verified in cadaver and then currently used at our clinic.

We use two De Puy shape memory staples wich facilitate sufficient bone comression and provide stable fixation of trapezium .Between 2011 and 2014 this procedure was used in 14 patients with primary rizarthrosis , aver. age was 52 years, range 44-69 years., the average follow up was 19 month, solid fusion was recorded at 7 weeks after surgery.
