Narcolepsy in elderly : development of the disease in aging, comorbidities, treatment specifics

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2014

Abstract

Narcolepsy usually follows its bearer in adult age, sometimes in youth but always in aging. Some of the symptoms are probably getting milder with age.

On the other hand, in old age narcoleptics comorbidities are intensified, especially associated sleep disorders - parasomnias, sleep-related breathing disorders, periodic limb movement syndrome, rest legs syndrome. Elder patients usually have opportunity to take naps during day, which positively influences the sleepiness.
