Abstract
Hair marks a person and its role in society. It defines a person's gender, sexual availability, age or social status.
The purpose of this chapter is to show how diverse, smybolic and meaningful is the world of human hair. In many cultures worldwide hairstyles have been connected to sexual, ritual, social or religious symbolism as is shown in this text.
