Abstract

Problems with import of non-registered remedies for curing the rare life-theatening infectious diseases led to establishing the Emergency Anti-Infective Drug Reserve (EAIDR) for the Czech Republic. Thirteen anti-infective remedies are involved in the project: antisera against rabies virus, varicella-zoster virus, and botulototin; antituberculotics (intravenous rifampicin and isoniazid; capreomycin, cycloserin, and clofazimin); antiparasitics (intravenous quinine, primaqine, meglumin antimoniate, and praziqantel); pentamidin.

These remedies are imported according to the Czech drug legislative (specific drug-availability programmes). The Czech Ministry of Health approved the project in September 2013, realization started in January 2014.

The anti-infective remedies sufficient for 2-4 patients are permanently available in the Toxicologic Information Centre in Prague. the remedies can be applicated in any hospital in the Czech Republic within several hours.
