Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies and Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic cordially invite you to the international conference, whose theme is thinking of Georges Canguilhem and its place in the French philosophy of the 20th century. The main subject of the conference is the problem of normativity of life according to Canguilhem, as well as the questionable distinction between normal and abnormal.
Equally welcome are contributions dealing with the methodology of the natural sciences and the specificity of understanding of the living organism compared to the understanding of unanimate nature. In particular, the conference will examine Canguilhem's complicated relationship to the vitalist tradition.
The conference will also focus on the philosophy of science, with a particular focus on medicine, biology and historical epistemology.
