Abstract

On the national level the Constitutional Act No. 144/1968 which regulated the status of nationalities in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic was certainly a unique legislative action in the field of minority rights. It garanteed certain minority rights at least to four explicitly mentioned nationalities.

The aim of this paper is to briefly decribe the development of the protection of national minorities after World War II until the end of the 1960s from an international perspective. We believe that with a view to this context specific national models may be better evaluated.
