This lecture celebrated two anniversaries: 150 years since the birth and 90 years since the death of the Dutch playwright Herman Heijermans. The lecture deals with the circulation of his best-known play The Good Hope (Op hoop van zegen, 1900) in the Czech lands.
It turned out that, besides a lot of adaptations of All Souls (Allerzielen), The Good Hope was performed in different Czech translations many times, by professional as well as amateur theatre companies. The lecture offers an overview of the stagings in the period between 1901 and 1973, and, it explores the reception of Heijermans in the Czech lands, based on the reviews, accompanying the performances.
