Abstract

The Tachov native František Josef Dollhopf (1695-1743) was the church organist for nearly thirty years for the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star in Prague, and according to some records, he trained a large number of outstanding composers and musical performers. The information that has been preserved about his life is, however, only fragmentary and, moreover, not entirely accurate.

Thanks to research of the records at the office of the registrar of the City of Tachov and of written materials passed down from the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star that are now kept in Department I of the National Archives in Prague, the author of the article has successfully determined the birth year of F. J.
