Prolonged-relase exenatide in the treatment of diabetes - possibility of once-weekly administration

Abstract

Exenatide in a dosage form for once-weekly administration is a suspension for injection with prolonged relase exenatide. The preparation is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in combination with metformin, a sulphonylurea, thiazolidinediones, metformin + a sulphonylurea, or metformin + a thiazolidinedione.

It is intended for the treatment of adult patients who have not attained adequate glycaemia control with maximally tolerated doses of the above antidiabetic combinations. It has a marked effect on reducing body weight and other metabolic syndrome components.

The drug is designed for preparation by the patient mixing the powder with a solvent.
