Abstract

The effects of direct current on central nervous system, today known as transcranial direct current stimulation is a method not entirely unknown among biological treatments in psychiatry. It is a perspective tool for the modulation of brain activity, applicable in the research of cortical representations of sensomotorical, cognitive and other functions of various neuronal networks as well as in the treatment of many neuropsychiatric disorders.

There has been an increase in the number of studies in the past few years, especially those dealing with major depressive disorders where this method has proven itself to be a promising biological treatment method in ameliorating pathological mood. It is a safe method with very few side effects if following safety protocols.
