Abstract

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease arising on the basis of the early manifestations mainly in childhood. The incidence of this disease has in most European countries including the Czech Republic upward trend.

Diabetes is consistently paid great attention in all areas of medicine, yet many aspects remain unclear. A number of studies established and there is also in the field of dentistry, but generally valid conclusions have been reached only in monitoring the relationship between diabetes and periodontal disease.

A number of studies have shown a higher incidence of plaque and gingivitis greater incidence of chronic both adults and children with diabetes. Periodontitis in childhood is a rare disease with a prevalence in healthy subjects and in children with type 1 diabetes.

Yet some of the facts certified in abundance valid studies (different microbial colonization of the oral cavity, and the effect of compensation event. I incidence of complications of diabetes on periodontal status) indicate a higher risk of developing periodontitis and development in children with type 1 diabetes.

By monitoring the impact of diabetes on the rise and development of dental caries clinical trial results do not match. However, it was confirmed that some minor risk factors for caries in the diabetic population represented and others are more or less, in comparison with non-diabetic control group.

Demonstrated the quantitative and qualitative changes in the saliva of diabetics, the partial results of individual studies vary. An interesting perspective on the issue of type 1 diabetes and oral health study to provide certain behavioral characteristics of patients.

The results of published studies on the relationship between type 1 diabetes as the underlying disease and the condition of the oral cavity clearly shows the need to continue to pursue this topic in the research field of special attention.
