The Transformations of William Hogarth: The Excess of Misery

Publication |
2013

Abstract

The monograph focuses on the transformations of Hogarth art in history; covering not only the influence and reception of his work, but also the transformation of his specific style in the context of many copies or even forgeries. The monograph also covers key principles of Hogarth's work, especially the physiognomy as the key element to understanding his critique and of society and his revolutionary conception of beauty - but from the point of theoretical failure in context of Hogarth's conflict with Lomazzo's treatise on art.
