Frontiers and Identities in the Context of Urban Studies

Abstract

The article discuses the research in the field of urban studies which is focused on frontiers and identities, and opposite the identity and borders studies which find their focus in problems on the urban and local scale. The corpus of researches which are discussed and treated as a legitimate sample of works in the research field stem from the results published by the research network of excellence CLIOHRES overarching 45 universities in Europe, Turkey and South Africa, and 180 not only European researchers.

The discourse on frontiers and identities in cities is exposed in the context of studies of community, cultural and political perspectives, and cities "tout court". The article shows how were analyzed problems of urban development, community politics, urban societies through the concept of frontiers and identities separately and in overlap.
