Abstract

The paper focuses on language socialization of Romani children in a Romani settlement of Eastern Slovakia. In particular it is devoted to teasing of children by their caretakers, which is a frequent speech act within child-directed communication in the Romani community (as well as a common topic in language socialization studies).

The paper describes common topics of teasing activities, their cultural context, and their influence on the communicative style of adults.
