The outline of sports evolution of local union YMCA České Budějovice during interwar period

Abstract

The presented article discusses the history of one of the important sports unions from south Bohemia during interwar period. YMCA České Budějovice tried to popularize a large number of sports in south Bohemia.

This sports union wanted to accomplish this task by organizing a lot of meetings and competitions. Not just for sports clubs, but for schools as well.

The sportsmen of YMCA České Budějovice also took part in lot of meetings and competitions which were organized by other teams. YMCA wanted their members to be led by quality coaches, which was necessary to improve the quality of performed sports.

In 1925 this union became the dominant athletics club in České Budějovice. A lot of great athletes moved in.

This sports union was also pretty successful in heavy athletics, handball or ping pong. The best athletes of this sports union represented Czechoslovakia in international meetings.

Through all successes of sports union YMCA České Budějovice this union started to inhibit its activity at the beginning of 1930s. In 1933 this union ceased its activities.

Probably the only sport, which was still played after the ceasing the sport activities of this union, was ping pong.
