Abstract

The objective of the first part of the chapter "Comparison as a specific method of art history and theory " is to contribute to the gradual crystallization methodology of comparative history of art. It is a modified version of the introductory chapter of the first part of a four-part series focusing on comparative Fine Arts and Music.

This study addresses both general aspects of the use of comparative method, as well as a specific focus on art and music. The second part of the chapter is devoted to random processes used mainly in the art of the second half of the 20th century with an accent of the work of John Cage and Merce Cunningham Roaratorio It goes from describing numerous layers of work to its unique relationship to literature, music, dance and stage design art.
