Abstract
Hrabal's narrative work is examined rom the perspective of classical rhetorical methods brevitas and amplificatio. If brevita is linked with the epic mode, amplificatio is connected to the lyrical mode.
In the thematic plane, both stylistic methods determine different depictions of time.
