Classic Czech Frontier Works in the Period before the Great War. From Čech's 'The Blacksmith of Lešetín' to Stašek's novel 'On the Boundary Line'

Abstract

The chapter is a fundamental text exploring the formation of the paradigm of Czech frontier literature as a means for effective influencing of the public space. The exposition starts with 'The Blacksmith of Lešetín' by Svatopluk Čech and goes on to works by Karolína Světlá, Alois Jirásek, Antal Stašek, Jan Klecanda, and others.

It concludes in defining the specifics of the Czech frontier literature in comparison with frontier literature in German.
